Bloomin' Fun: Get Your Bluebonnet Fix at the Ennis Bluebonnet Trails Festival

Spring has sprung in the Lone Star State, and with it comes the vibrant and iconic Texas bluebonnets. These soft violet-blue flowers have a rich history in Texas, dating back to 1901 when they were officially recognized as the state flower. And what better way to celebrate their arrival than at the Ennis Bluebonnet Trails Festival, taking place April 14-16, 2023.

Ennis is known as the  Official Bluebonnet City of Texas, and for good reason. Visitors from all over the world flock to see the 40 miles of mapped bluebonnet trails, which are the oldest known trails in the state. Along the way, you’ll enjoy picturesque tree-lined country roads, grazing longhorn cows, and horses. And of course, you’ll be surrounded by fields of colorful wildflowers.

But it’s not just the bluebonnets that draw in the crowds. The 71st Annual Ennis Bluebonnet Trails Festival, presented by the Ennis Garden Club, offers an abundance of activities and live music throughout the weekend. From arts and crafts exhibitions to shopping, children’s activities, and delicious food options, there’s something for everyone. Plus, don’t miss out on the Ennis Education Foundation Wine Wander, where you can sample some of the finest Texas wines.

And the entertainment doesn’t stop there. On Friday, put on your cowboy boots and get down with King George. Saturday brings the ultimate Bon Jovi tribute band, Slippery When Wet, and on Sunday, The Windbreakers will close out the weekend with their high-energy performance. Plus, fireworks will cap off the festivities on Friday and Saturday night.

Daily admission for the Ennis Bluebonnet Trails Festival is $5 per person, with children 12 and under free. And if you can’t make it to the festival, don’t worry. There’s no fee to enjoy the 40 miles of driving trails throughout the month of April.
